I check it every morning when I rise knowing my son will still be in bed up the hill.Just to check what the day has in store for him!

Excellent cam. The time was spot on, unless my clock has stopped!. Shame about the weather, it was the same here, dull & wet. I've committed the cam to my favourites and I'll pop back regularly. Thanks to who ever wipes the lens!!

I miss Aber! I left over two and a half years ago now, after 3 wonderful years at uni there, and still come and check the webcams every now and then for a quick dose of Aber-ness. Am going to return there in two weeks with my boyfriend (another exile of aber), to catch up with uni mates, kick the Bar, eat Arts Center cakes, see AberJazz (hope they're still around?!) and generally feel like we've come home.

Oh Ellen, I weep for you. I know so many ex-pats who feel like you. The only happy ones are those who have finally returned, usually in the twilight of their years full of regre. Travelling only brings sorrow at lost time with nearest and dearest. The trauma of moving back home is never to be underestimated. I am always left with the feeling its better never to go in the first place....If my mum still lived in Christchurch what a different life I would have.....

I miss Aber so much!!! I went to Plascrug Primary school and then Penglais Secondary school and then off to nursery nursing college in Ammanford. I miss it so much, I've gone back three times over the last 17 years, I'm a nanny over here and loving it. I lived in the flats called Plasmorolwg overlooking the harbour. The winters were the best watching the crazy waves crashing over the jetti. The summers were great too going down to the beach with my radio every sunday with my mates listening to the top 40 countdown. We used to swim in the river or in the salt water beach at Tanabwlch, I'm not sure if I have the spelling right. In the summer we would walk over to Clarach and get all the cheap stuff at the market. When I think of my childhood home I think of Aberystwth, hanging out with Natalie, Shelley, Nerys, Stuart, Paul and all the other people. Now I'm 35, very single and feeling somewhat nostaligic. I want to go back....good times....good times.xxx

    Dave Stonebridge, Heath hayes, Staffordshire.
Many happy memories as a young child on the annual holiday, walking around the castle grounds going 'crabbing' on the rocks and most of all, the tramway up the hill.

My wife is from Aberystwyth, and I have enjoyed a couple of visits there. It is a place I wish I could visit more frequently, with its history and small town feel.

Les G Jenkins, Annan ScotlandI was bred in aber in the forties, my parents had the newsagent and sweets shop on the corner of bridge st and south rd. those were the good old days! i look at the webcam most days to keep touch with aber, and visit at least once a year to see old faces.Thu Mar 13 15:56:03 2008 I remember that shop. According to my calculations the prom webcam is still four hours out, it should currently be saying 17:37 not 13:37. Otherwise it's great to have a window on the world in Aber! Thanks.

My Mum, Dad and Sister are in Aber for our Nanny's birthday. (She would have been 101 on Saturday) They have just waved to me, I am in Canada! Hi Guys :o) Now off to the Belle Vue for a warm up and a cup of tea.Thank you for the web cam. I am here every day,

Hi George from Australia. I suggest you ask the same question again on bbc talkwales website called "Off The Lip". We'll be much better able to answer questions there. Summer isn't the surf season in Britain, but there may well be smallish swells.

I do like Aberystwyth, and "web cams", arn't they clever. I recently started using "computers" and find them quite fascinating. I spend alot of my time walking around Aberystwyth, when i should be working!! It's a lovely place and I like it very much.

Not too impressed with it as it's just a photo which refreshes occasionally. I found one for Tenby where you can see movement constantly which is much better.

We are a family of surfers from Australia coming to Wales to surf and trace our family history. We are planning to come late June into July. Is this a good time of year for waves? What is the water temperature? What are the air temperature and weather conditions? Where is a good central location to stay by the sea with high quality accommodation and ammenities for Father and son surfers, wife non surfer and Grandparents non surfers? We appreciate any feedback ThanksGeorge

Its great to see the winter tides, hope they dont damage anything or anyone, but fantastic to watch. Would love to see the waves at Borth and along the cliff line to Aberwenal.

    Paul Upson from Basingstoke
Many happy times spent in Aberystwyth. I log on most days to see what I am missing. Such a great place.
    Tue Mar 11 09:12:07 2008

    Angela, Chepstow,
Oh Tim. I pity your poor wife. Denying her a sneaky romantic gesture because of your fear of being watched. Does it not bother you, the hundreds of students, residents and tourist that live on the seafront, and can just look out of the window at you. Then again, perhaps you should consider the above people and spare them your romantic gestures and save them for somewhere more appropriate.Me, I would happily snog my husband on the promenade, as it would invoke many happy memories of my years in Aberystwyth.Lighten up Tim, I'm sure many people would not give you a second glance.

Looks as though you are feeling the full force of the gale sweeping Western UK today - you would need to be a brave soul indeed on that prom playing 'dodge the wave'.

Tim,I don't think anyone really wishes to spy on you or your wife. Really, one cannot make out individual faces. I love to look at the Aber webcams every day, it comforts me to see the familar sights of home.
    Fri Feb 29 14:31:22 2008

    Tim, Aberystwyth
Isn't it terrible when public spaces lose the potential for offering the fleeting private moment... I'll never again look to sneak a romantic moment with my wife on one of our walks along the promenade -- not with the knowledge that cameras are watching. such a lovely spot in the world... stripped of its romance by big brother. a crying shame.

My warm memories are refreshed - abt. 40 years ago, we lived on S. Marine Terrace for a couple of years - what a setting, even in the wildest winter storm which, at times, sprayed our windows! much love to Beryl and Raymond Stephens of "Grongar" - 'til we meet again.

I recently visited Mid Wales and North Wales and stayed with my Auntie Rosa and my relatives for 4 days. I have not been back to wales for 40 years since I emigrated to Perth Western Australia. My wife and I had such a great time staying in Aber visiting the places I used to go as a young boy. My Auntie works at the Arts centre and is known by many locals. I shall return again one day, it's such a wonderful place.

Actually, the Prom cam loses minutes a day. Currently it's about 27mins slow which is surprising as it must surely be computer triggered....? 8-10-07 07.31hrs

    Tom S, Mongolia, ex-Aber
Just before leaving work over here, I try to remember to check what the morning is like back in Aber via the webcam and an 8 hour time difference. Nice to know that every time the image changes maybe it's Mum or Dad driving along the Prom in the distance. Mongolia is landlocked and the sea is one of the things you start to miss (along with constant water pressure and civilised roads...). Will be back there in Jan to see the real thing again. Hey Chris in China - Not in Beijing are you, if so fancy a nostalgic beer sometime? Will be passing through in early Jan and mid Feb.

Aber is such a lovely place and i'm missing being there so much since moving so far away. I will hopefully be back in the future to reminisce about and relive all the good times me and my friends had there!

    Charles from Linz, Austria
At the moment we are visited by our friends from Penrhiwnewydd, Penrhyncoch, Aber. Last year we were hosted by our friends and we loved Aber, the University, its library, the beaches, constitution hill, also Rummers bar, half way inn, the atmosphere, the climate and the people over there. My family and I hope to be back soon. It is nearly the most beautiful place in the world with an excellent climate, although our friends always tell us it is raining. The webcams show they are exaggerating.
    Mon Aug 8 19:41:06 2005

    Emlyn Griffiths from Tanygroes
I like the Aber webcam, but how often does the picture change. The one in New Zealand changes every 15 seconds. Thank you, Emlyn.

Hi Emlyn. Thanks for your message. The webcam is set to refresh every 5 minutes. Mid Wales Web Team

Bill from Mold: yes, students still kick the bar! I graduated in 1997 and looking at the web cam really brings back such wonderful memories: drunken, melancholic strolls along the beach on balmy summer nights, hectic storms in the winter and an enduring charm - charm in the people, the unspoilt architecture, the unpredicatable water quality in the sea (either crystal clear or bright green) - all in all a stunningly charming place. Can't wait to retire there in thirty years!

Why did I move to Milano!!!! Ciao to everybody in Aber. Great webcam.

A nice reminder of how dull it can be in Wales, but when the nice weather comes, it's well worth the wait!! I can't wait to get back there in September...!!!
